Natural wood is a must in your home, naturally…

If you live in the Rochester, NY area like we do, you are probably feeling those summer vibes these last few days. With the weather finally being so nice we are planning on spending the weekend in the woods, soaking in the sun and fresh air. I’ve loved spending time outdoors for as long as I can remember but we can’t always be out in nature. Most of the time you will find Matt and I in the design studio, out on job site visits, or enjoying our home. So it is important to me to bring natural elements into my spaces and designs. It’s my way of being immersed in nature at all times. One of my favorite elements to add to a design is natural wood. Be it a piece of custom wood furniture or a rustic cutting board strategically placed on the counter, natural wood creates warmth and a sense of calmness in your home.

The entryway of our Cascade Project present an elevated yet soft aesthetic with its light hardwood floors. With the added element of the natural wood balusters and handrail you get the perfect transitional design.

These herringbone butcher block countertops create a subtle yet eye catching texture in the Whitehaven Laundry Room. The smooth surface is perfect for folding and sorting laundry or prepping for spring cleaning.

It’s excellent for smaller applications as well, but don’t be fooled, using wooden elements for styling still makes a big impact. It can be as simple as adding handmade cooking utensils and maybe you’ll even find yourself with a new favorite spoon! We also love simply layering a couple of cutting boards. Lately, with a reemergence of a more sustainable way of life there has be a renewed interest in using products that have been recycled and made into something new. Much like these reclaimed wood charcuterie boards. However, wooden elements don’t have to only be reserved for the main rooms of your home. Adding this artisan stool to the shower gives this marble and white bathroom a pop of warmth that makes it feel more like a spa than a master bathroom.

Natural wood furniture reveals craftsmanship at it’s finest. This custom white oak coffee table we commission for our Carraway Project speaks to that. The table is made only more beautiful by the nature of how it was created and its one-of-a-kind uniqueness.

Wood is truly a timeless element, part of why I love to use it in so many (if not all) of my designs. What that timelessness really means is, it can be used in so many different applications. Natural wood is perfect for everything from styling your kitchen counters or bathroom, to more permeant installations such as flooring and cabinetry. These cabinets are made not far from our design studio in Fairport, NY, one of the many reasons we love them. Beyond that they are fully custom, we even have our own select DMB custom collection, and they will with stand the test of time much like the interior design they were created for.
